Hunger Games - Movie?

Rumor has it that Suzanne Collins is working on a screenplay for The Hunger Games. I'm not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I'm excited about the possibility. On the other I'm not sure it will live up to my crazy expectations.
First of all, in the book Peeta is Blond. In my mind Peeta is not. He has dark hair...and he is freakin' hot. I'm just sayin'. Yeah I've seen a bunch of sites where everyone is picking their "Peeta"...I just ain't feelin' it yo! If they cast a blond actor for Peeta I won't be able to picture anyone but him when I think of Peeta. :(
Second, the book is written for "young adults" (what the freak is a young adult anyway?"). However, if the movie is made for "young adults" there is no way they would be able to get the rating they need without taking out the crazy, bloody, spear in your stomach type scenes from the arena.
Third, Gale needs to be a hottie too...but not so hot that I'm waivering on my Team Peeta status. Cause yes Gale is a dark haired cutie that the girls in town all lurve...but I can't love him. I just can't. I'm Team Peeta. Do not try to sway me by casting a dark haired dream come true and giving him abs like Taylor Lautner's cause...wait no...please do. :D
Last, please don't turn this into another Twilight. Please don't. I can't handle the hype again. The freakin' screaming teenagers that didn't even read the dayum book.
What do you think?

  1. I know what you mean. If they cheapen The Hunger Games like they have Twilight, I'll be so disappointed.

  2. Yeah I know exactly what you mean!! I feel like the Twilight I loved when I first read the books was taken away from me with the movies. I don't want Hunger Games taken away from me either. And you are totally right about the content of the book being way more graphic than a movie would be able to be with a "young adult" rating. =]

  3. Nope, a YA movie version would be completely unacceptable. However, I do have my picks for Gale and Peeta.
Peeta - Paul Walker or Chris Evans. My perception of Peeta is a pretty boy. Can't get his hands dirty.
Gale - Channing Tatum (mmmm) or Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar and will play Perseus in the Clash of the Titans remake)...he has serious hotness potential. for a white boy, i mean.

  4. Yeah, I don't think we're going to have another Twilight on our hands (please please please don't let me be jinxing it). Lionsgate seems to lean towards edgier/dystopian movies (Brothers, From Paris with Love, Daybreakers, the Saw movies). I think they'll honor the book's more mature tone.

    Here's a quote from the film's producer:
“The Hunger Games is an incredible property and it is a thrill to bring it home to Lionsgate. This is the exactly the kind of movie I came to Lionsgate to make: youthful, exciting, smart and edgy. We are looking forward to working with Nina and Suzanne to create a movie that satisfies audiences’ hunger for high-quality entertainment.”

And to that may I just add that--if they cast Megan Fox, or even a Megan Fox type person, as Katniss--she certainly will be "the girl who was on fire". One lit. By me.

I vote open call casting a la Harry Potter. Think of the PR, people. May the odds be ever in your favor...to get the part of Katniss!
